The Shanghai K Charitable Foundation was
registered in November 2017 at the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau. The Foundation's purpose is to help others to help themselves, and it supports youth living in
poverty and tragedy.
The Foundation supports the Sir Horace Kadoorie Hospitality and Mentoring Programme (hereinafter referred to as the programme). The programme, founded in 2015 by The Hon Sir Michael and Lady Kadoorie, pays tribute to industrialist and hotelier Sir Horace Kadoorie, CBE (1902-1995), who was a great philanthropist and a former resident of Shanghai, to continue his legacy of helping the less fortunate in China. It provides holistic development in hospitality, technical and life skills training so that the young can become independent and self-reliant.
Beneficiaries are recruited from rural and
disadvantaged communities throughout China. Some are orphans, some from families
devastated by AIDS or by fatal domestic violence and some are just children who
were left behind when their parents left to work in urban centres.

"The programme helps those who come from disadvantaged backgrounds to take charge of their lives and play a role in China's thriving hospitality industry."
Challenges for Disadvantaged Youth
Lack of Skills
The growing cost of education prevents disadvantaged youths from receiving quality training and education.
There are limited opportunities to change their living conditions, and this widens the income gap.
Low self-esteem and self-confidence.
HELPING OTHERS HELP THEMSELVES
The programme provides a holistic approach in hospitality technical training and life skills to youths in their late teens to early twenties from disadvantaged backgrounds so that they may learn a trade and how to live in large cities, and lead productive and self-sustaining lives as model individuals in their communities.
Your help will make a big difference to disadvantaged young people.
